Technology and remote supports are powerful tools for enhancing the connectivity, inclusion, and personal freedom of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

ANCOR was invited by our colleagues to participate in the interdisciplinary work group to develop a new report: Expanding the Use of Remote Supports for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The working group included ANCOR’s Chief Operating Officer Gabrielle Sedor, Dr. Shea Tanis from the University of Kansas, Marc Tassé and Jordan Wagner from Ohio State University, and Kandi Pickard of the National Down Syndrome Society.

The report explores barriers to the usage of technology and recommends actionable steps that could be adopted by states, service providers, case managers, support staff, and families to accelerate the adoption of technology and remote supports. These recommendations include:

  • Building partnerships with technology companies
  • Tracking the growth of remote supports across states
  • Creating a national peer-to-peer video library
  • Prioritizing data collection methods
