OIG Releases Report on Critical Incidents to Congress

On January 17, 2018 the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released an initial report to Congress summarizing its investigations on critical incident reporting in Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts. The report also recommended improvements to critical incident reporting for group home settings by state and service providers. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma issued a response to the report, committing to issuing sub-regulatory guidance on critical incident reporting. The CMS letter can be accessed here. In addition, the Administration on Community Living (ACL) issued a statement on the report in which it mentions developing Model Practices to address gaps in reporting and monitoring efforts.
