Reflecting on the Success of Our National Week of Action to #SaveMedicaid

A few short weeks ago, ANCOR wrapped up one of its most impactful advocacy campaigns yet: the National Week of Action to #SaveMedicaid. Running through the last week of February, this concentrated effort brought together advocates from across the country in an extraordinary show of support for Medicaid-funded services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Now, as we look back on the campaign, it’s clear that the engagement and response exceeded all expectations. One of the most significant highlights was our Monday action alert, which resulted in more than 19,000 messages to members of Congress. Even more encouraging is that we had over 8,600 people take action for the first time ever, demonstrating the growing awareness and urgency around protecting Medicaid.

Our outreach efforts resonated deeply on Capitol Hill, with at least 92% of congressional offices hearing directly from ANCOR supporters. This included outreach to 393 House offices and 98 Senate offices, ensuring that a vast majority of lawmakers received messages about the importance of Medicaid to their constituents.

Beyond direct advocacy, the campaign also sparked a powerful wave of personal storytelling. Nearly 300 advocates shared their experiences through ANCOR’s story collection form. These stories offer compelling testimonies on how Medicaid-funded services enable people with disabilities to live, work, and thrive in their communities. The stories come from a wide range of perspectives, and will continue to serve as a vital tool in educating policymakers and the public alike.

Social media also played a key role in amplifying our message. Nearly 1,500 people accessed ANCOR’s new #SaveMedicaid social media toolkit, helping spread critical advocacy messages across Bluesky, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn. ANCOR-branded images and key messages were shared widely, keeping Medicaid front and center in public discourse. This toolkit is available to use in your continued advocacy.

While the Week of Action has concluded, the urgency of our mission remains. The overwhelming response from advocates reinforces the power of collective action and the importance of continuing to engage with lawmakers. As threats to Medicaid persist, ANCOR remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting these essential services—and we know our dedicated advocates are right there alongside us. We encourage you to take a moment and call on your members of Congress to protect Medicaid using our action alert.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Week of Action. Your voices are making a difference, and together, we will keep fighting to #SaveMedicaid.
