House Leadership Urged to Bring Direct Support Professionals Bill to Vote

Advocates are pressing House leadership to prioritize H.R. 2941, the “Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act,” and bring it to the floor for a vote. The bipartisan bill has already passed unanimously in the Senate (S. 1332) and the House Education and Workforce Committee, highlighting its strong support across party lines.

Over the past year, more than 6,000 messages have been sent to Congress from constituents urging lawmakers to advance this critical legislation. The bill addresses a longstanding gap by urging the establishment of a Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). This classification would enable better data collection on DSP employment and wages, helping policymakers tackle workforce shortages in home and community-based services (HCBS) for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

With just weeks left in this Congress, now is the time to take action. Visit ANCOR’s campaign page to send your Member of Congress a message!
