Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) announced significant restructuring and downsizing within the Department. In response to the announcement, ANCOR released the following statement:

“ANCOR calls on Secretary Kennedy and the administration to recognize and value the importance of Medicaid in the lives of people with I/DD and the impact significant restructuring could entail for those services.

“We are concerned by the breadth of this action and its potential to have severe consequences for the people who rely on community-based supports. We urge HHS to first seek input from federal partners, community groups and other stakeholders that will be directly impacted.

“ANCOR further urges HHS to maintain the Administration for Community Living’s crucial functions within HHS, and to guarantee that there will be no diminishment to the HHS’s efforts to enforce federal civil rights protections for Americans with disabilities.”
