Update on HHS Request to Move Funding to Cover Migrants Detained at the Border

In an update to this previous ANCOR Capitol Correspondence story, ANCOR is sharing a letter from Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar to Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) notifying her of his intent to transfer funding from various HHS programs to the care of migrant children and their families detained at the border of Mexico. Page 2 of this letter contains a chart showing a request to transfer just shy of $5.2 million from the Administration on Community Living, which funds certain disability supports and services as well as research and innovation on disability issues – including I/DD.

ANCOR has been following this issue because payment for this immigration issue will, as proposed by Secretary Azar, likely be pulled from programs that service people with I/DD. Specifically, this topic is being discussed by ANCOR’s International Council – please contact Esme Grant Grewal at [email protected] to learn more about the Council.
