ICYMI: Democratic Congressional Committee Staff Release Disability Employment Report

During National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), Democratic members of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee issued a report titled: “Disability Employment: Outdated Laws Leave People with Disabilities Behind in Today’s Economy.” As suggested by the title, the report finds that: “While modest gains have been realized in government and private sector employment of people with disabilities, the analysis of nationwide outcomes shows that employment of people with disabilities lags far behind their peers. Moreover, compared to every other group tracked by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment outcomes for people with disabilities are far lower.” The findings and recommendations in this report are fairly similar to those in the National Council on Disability’s report on disability employment, also released in October during NDEAM.
