ANCOR Disappointed by House Vote to Pass HR 620 – Stay Tuned for Updates and Alerts As Bill Heads to Senate

On Thursday, February 15, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 620, which ANCOR had opposed because it weakened the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in practice. As written in ANCOR’s statement following the vote:

“ANCOR is extremely disappointed to see that the U.S. House of Representatives voted this morning (225-192) to set back accessibility for Americans with disabilities by decades with the passage of HR 620, the ADA Education and Reform Act.

‘As an association whose mission is to advance the ability of our members in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to fully participate in their communities, we see HR 620 as a threat to one of the most basic aspects of participation, which is access,’ said Barbara Merrill, ANCOR CEO.

ANCOR sincerely thanks Representatives Harper, Langevin, McMorris Rodgers, and Tonko, as well as the other Representatives who said no to pushing back protections for people with disabilities.
