Senate Introduces Bill to Build Upon ANCOR-Backed National Care Corps

Senators Tom Udall (D-NM), Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) introduced the Senate version of the National Care Corps Act on October 17, 2018. First introduced in the House by U.S. Representative Lujan Grisham (D-NM), the National Care Corps received $5 million this September as part of a larger Congressional deal funding the federal government. The Senate bill would build upon that. ANCOR is a lead supporter of the National Care Corps Act, which seeks to fill the growing need for caregivers and direct support staff – including within I/DD supports and services. We will keep members informed of opportunities for involvement in Senate efforts on this topic. Note that there is real potential is this program – just last week the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded $293 million to a similar program growing the primary health care workforce!
