ANCOR is sharing this article by Politico Pulse because the Affordable Care Act (ACA, also known as ObamaCare) contains provisions that are vital to ensuring health coverage for people with disabilities. The ACA requires insurance companies to cover people with pre-existing conditions, and intellectual / developmental disabilities (I/DD) such as autism and Down Syndrome are considered pre-existing conditions. With this bill unlikely to pass the Senate, it is a statement by House Democrats on their protection of the ACA.

As written by Politico Pulse:

“House Democrats move to strip funding for legal effort to kill Obamacare. Democrats on Thursday added an amendment to a fiscal 2020 minibus spending package covering agencies, including the FDA, H.R. 3055 (116), that would bar funding for the Trump administration’s legal push to eliminate Obamacare.

Lawmakers voted 238-194 to adopt the measure from Reps. Lauren Underwood of Illinois and Hakeem Jeffries of New York, marking Democrats’ latest effort to highlight the Trump administration’s support for striking protections for people with pre-existing conditions.”
