“Theo Merkel, a former aide to Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), is replacing White House special assistant Brian Blase in a key Trump administration health policy staff role, two individuals with knowledge of the transition tell POLITICO.

Merkel joined the White House earlier this year as a health policy adviser for the National Economic Council, where he overlapped with Blase for several months. The council had a prominent role devising alternatives to Obamacare, including a rule issued last week to expand health reimbursement arrangements.

The White House didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.”
