CMS Innovation Center Receiving Pushback on Value Based Reforms

ANCOR is sharing this article by Politico Pro because value-based payments and alternative payment models are increasingly becoming important discussions in the field of intellectual / developmental disability (I/DD) supports. These topics are also an Administration priority, particularly for the head of the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), named in the letter linked to below.

As shared by Politico Pro:

“Several health care organizations including accountable care groups want Medicare’s innovation lab to create a more public and inclusive process for updating and developing new payment experiments.

The brass tacks: Stakeholders should be able to comment on model designs and changes before they’re finalized. The groups, which include the National Association of ACOs, Premier, and the Health Care Transformation Task Force, suggest a model like the Medicare Advantage Rate Notice and call letter, which lets stakeholders give feedback, but isn’t as formal as a notice and comment rulemaking process. While they are committed to shouldering higher levels of financial risk, that requires a ‘steady and predictable payment environment,’ the groups wrote in a letter Tuesday to CMS Administrator Seema Verma and CMMI Director Adam Boehler.”
