Headshot of Marilyn AlthoffLongtime advocate for people with disabilities and ANCOR ally, Marilyn Althoff, passed away at her home in Iowa earlier this month after a hard-fought battle with ALS.

Jerri McCandless, who retired from ANCOR in 2022, reflected on Marilyn’s connections to ANCOR, and offered her condolences on her passing. “Marilyn represented Iowa on ANCOR’s Board of Representatives for many, many years. She was also a consistent attendee at ANCOR Conferences and Retreats, and was heavily involved in the work of the Government Relations Committee,” said McCandless. “When I went to visit Hills & Dales during my Iowa visit, I could see firsthand how loved she was by the people her agency supported. She seemed to know everyone by name and it was impossible not to sense her warmth with everyone.”

ANCOR extends our deepest condolences to Marilyn’s family and everyone touched by her life, and we thank her for her fierce advocacy on behalf of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
