Position Summary

To provide treatment, support, advocacy, and linkage to consumers enrolled in the Outpatient Clinic Programs. The Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinician functions as a supportive member of the interdisciplinary team and clinical team for all Outpatient Programs.

  1. Maintains responsibility for confidential and time sensitive information through the use of electronic management systems.
  2. Effectively communicates with families, clients, staff and outside agencies via phone and email in a professional and timely manner.
  3. Utilizes Electronic Health Record to effectively manage work completion and remain within regulatory guidelines.
  4. Seeks, reviews, and recommends changes, updates, and configurations as needed with assistance from program administration and management.

Qualifications

The following individuals may provide services, within their defined scopes of practice or as otherwise permitted by law;

Provisional / Limited Mental Health Counselor (MHC) (SG 18)

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) (SG 19) who is currently licensed or holds a provisional/ limited status as a mental health counselor by the New York State Education Department; OR

Provisional / Limited Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) (SG 18)

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) (SG 19) who is currently licensed or holds a provisional/ limited status as a marriage and family therapist by the New York State Education Department or possesses a permit from the New York State Education Department; OR

Provisional/ Limited master Social Worker (MSW) (SG 18)

Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) (SG19) who is currently licensed or holds a provisional/ limited status as a master social worker by the New York State Education Department; OR

Provisional/ LimitedCreative Arts Therapist (CAT) (SG 18)

Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) (SG19) who is currently licensed or holds a provisional/ limited status as a creative arts therapist by the New York State Education Department; OR

Provisional/ Limited Psychoanalyst (SG18)

Licensed Psychoanalyst (SG 19) who is currently licensed or holds a provisional/ limited status as a psychoanalyst by the New York State Education Department or possesses a permit from the New York State Education Department; OR

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) (SG20) who is currently licensed as a clinical social worker by the New York State Education Department; OR

Licensed Clinical Social Worker – Registered (LCSW- R) (SG 20) who is currently licensed as a clinical social worker by the New York State Education Department; OR

The following are allowed by regulation but not included on our salary grid:

Licensed Psychologist who is currently licensed as a psychologist by the New York State Education Department;

Registered Professional Nurse who is currently licensed as a registered professional nurse by the New York State Education Department;

Physician Assistant who is currently registered as a physician assistant or a specialist’s assistant by the New York State Education Department, with additional required OMH training.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Performs initial intake and assessment/evaluation through the process of individual interview, interview of significant others and review of previous records, if available, for the purpose of gathering pertinent information to complete the assessment.
  2. Develops a Treatment Plan to address specific identified needs which may include, but are not limited to: psycho/social (interpersonal) skills, self-esteem, depression/suicidal ideation, symptom control, anxiety and independent living skills.
  3. Provides treatment interventions through individual, joint or group counseling.
  4. Documents within standard timelines, each client session and writes progress notes based on each client contact. Notes are to include progress toward long- and short-term goals, changes in Treatment Plan and other significant events.
  5. Performs case management services for individuals within professional scope who are found to need case management intervention.  These services shall include, but are not limited to, treatment and community referrals, advocacy, psycho-education and crisis intervention.
  6. Performs periodic evaluations to establish patient needs and determines how identified needs can be met.
  7. Acts as liaison with other agencies and departments mutually involved in the patient’s care.
  8. Completes discharge paperwork within regulatory requirements.
  9. Serves as a coordinator of services for a caseload identified by the Behavioral Health Services Program Management Team, including participation in Team Meetings, Assessments and Treatment Plan formulation.
  10. Provides specific assessments within scope and expertise to individuals enrolled in mental health services.
  11. Meets all quality and productivity standards as defines by management and regulatory / funding entities.
  12. Serves as an advocate for family members, legal/forensic support, and outreach and engagement efforts.
