Take Action Now to Stop the Shock

The U.S. House of Representatives continues to advance its fiscal year (FY) 2025 appropriations bills, with a goal to pass all twelve of the funding bills before August. As the FY 2025 Agriculture-FDA appropriations bill worked its way through the House Appropriations subcommittee, the bill was amended to include harmful language that would undo decades of advocacy in ending the harmful use of electric shock devices on people with disabilities.

Language was inserted into the legislation that would prevent the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from banning the use of electric shock devices for the reduction of harmful or self-injurious behavior. Such devices are only used in one facility in the country, and the language of the bill would allow the continued use of the devices in that facility. The bill is scheduled for a vote in the full House Appropriations Committee on July 10.

If your member of Congress sits on the House Appropriations Committee, please take a moment to let them know you oppose this harmful language! Use our action tool to tell your Representative to oppose the use of electric shock devices on people with disabilities.
