Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it was amending its emergency use authorization for the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines to authorize use of a single booster dose for all individuals 18 years of age and older after completion of primary vaccination. Following the FDA’s announcement, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also approved broad use of the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 boosters for all adults over 18 years old.

The FDA and CDC have previously authorized the use of the Johnson and Johnson booster for individuals 18 years of age and older. To find out more about the CDC’s recommendations for COVID-19 vaccines, see the CDC guidance on COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Shots.
