CMS Issues letters to states on income and eligibility

As shared by CMS:

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a State Health Official letter that provided guidance on several legislative changes to the modified adjusted gross income (MAGI)-based methodologies used for determining Medicaid and CHIP eligibility. In order to implement the changes to MAGI-based methods described in this letter, states may need to make updates to eligibility policies and procedures and changes to eligibility systems logic. In addition, states will need to be able to collect the relevant application information in order to make accurate Medicaid and CHIP determinations. Capturing the information may involve changes to applications and other forms, additional instructions or help text, or new application questions. CMS remains available to provide technical assistance to states on the implementation of such changes to ensure that they are able to make the changes as soon as possible.
