Speaker Pelosi Outlines Sticking Points Between House and White House on COVID-19 Deal

As reported by ASAE, the association for association professionals of which ANCOR is a member:

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Thursday acknowledged there are ‘multiple items of critical importance’ to be resolved if there is to be any COVID-19 stimulus deal in the lame duck session that begins after the election.

Pelosi has been negotiating primarily with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on a new pandemic relief package and both parties had at times sounded optimistic about their progress. That positivity largely disappeared in recent days as Senate Republicans voiced no support for a large deal and President Trump vacillated on what he would back.

In a letter to Mnuchin today, Pelosi said aid for state and local governments, school funding, child-care money, tax credits for working families, unemployment benefits and liability protections for businesses are among the issues that have to be ironed out if there is a deal to be made after the election.

Pelosi also said she’s still waiting to hear from Mnuchin whether the White House will accept Democrats’ language on a national coronavirus testing strategy, which Mnuchin said earlier this month the administration was prepared to accept with minor changes.”
