ANCOR Issues Action Alert to Protect Medicaid Funding for People with Disabilities

ANCOR has released an action alert to rally advocates in protecting Medicaid funding as congressional leaders consider proposals that could significantly reduce federal support for the program. Among the ideas under discussion are per-capita caps, reductions to the federal medical assistance percentage (FMAP) floor, and rescinding unspent funds provided through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). While these proposals remain in early stages, they present risks to critical supports for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Proposed cuts to Medicaid funding could undermine community providers and the sustainability of services for individuals with I/DD. Structural changes, such as per-capita caps, would shift financial burdens to states, potentially limiting access to essential care and threatening the independence of people with disabilities.

ANCOR is calling on advocates to take immediate action by contacting their Senators and Representatives to emphasize the following points:

  • Protect Community-Based Services: Per-capita caps and similar proposals jeopardize access to vital community-based services for individuals with I/DD.
  • Preserve Independence: Medicaid cuts could hinder the ability of people with disabilities to live independently, find employment, and achieve personal goals.
  • Support Sustainability: Federal Medicaid funding is essential to ensuring the stability of supports for people with I/DD.

Advocates are encouraged to visit ANCOR’s campaign page to send a message to lawmakers and urge them to reject cuts to Medicaid funding. By making your voice heard, you can help safeguard the critical services that individuals with I/DD and their families rely on.
