An examination of a range of alternative payment initiatives underway across North America

In light of the ever-changing environment regarding initiatives to move away from traditional fee-for-service models toward payment models that pay for the delivery of value, ANCOR’s Alternative Payment Models Work Group partnered with five programs across North America that are testing key innovations in this space.

Following up on our January 2019 white paper on the topic and after long delays triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, this white paper highlights key lessons from the four American programs and one Canadian program working to identify best practices in value-based payments. In this report, the authors highlight five core components of a successful alternative payment model program and identify questions to consider for states or localities seeking to implement alternative payment models in their service delivery.
