On August 15, the Social Security Administration announced 12 new Compassionate Allowances conditions to reduce barriers to individuals’ eligibility for benefits. The Compassionate Allowances program identifies claims where the applicant’s condition clearly meets Social Security’s statutory standard for disability, allowing claims to proceed on medical confirmation of diagnosis alone. The Compassionate Allowances program has assisted more than 800,000 people with disabilities to be approved through the accelerated, policy-compliant disability process. The current list of allowances includes a total of 266 conditions.
