Senate Introduces Bill for Shutdown Back Pay for Federal Contractors with Disabilities

As ANCOR previously shared, individuals in the AbilityOne program, which promotes the employment of people with disabilities in the federal government, were affected by the partial federal shutdown that ran for over a month. In addition to not receiving salaries during that time, as contractors they were not included in legislation giving federal employees back pay once the shutdown ended. Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) has introduced S. 162, a bill which would give federal contractors with disabilities back pay for wages lost during the shutdown. It has 47 co-sponsors to date. ANCOR will keep members informed on how this legislation advances.
