Direct Care Workers on the Competitive Edge – How Going Independent Will Bring More Money Under Managed Care

September 25, 2013 - 5:30pm to 6:45pm
Eastern Standard Time

Description

Soreo, an Arizona based in-home provider with over 900 direct care workers (DCWs) is in the process of converting its DCWs from employees to independent contractors.
In this webinar, Wendy Swager and Jeff Coleman will explain how this conversion creates a win-win for Soreo and its workers by:

  • Increasing worker income by approximately 20%, while also reducing their taxes,

  • Removing limits on the number of hours worked, allowing workers as much overtime as they like and rendering the Companionship Exemption moot,

  • Offering workers protection under the Occupational and Accident insurance, which Wendy and Jeff believe is superior to Workers Compensation, and

  • Inspiring professionalism and entrepreneurism in DCWs – they’ll manage their own businesses and careers.

Soreo also believes many of its DCWs will be eligible for vouchers under the Affordable Care Act, and will get health care for free or at a significant cost reduction.

Wendy and Jeff will walk you through Soreo’s conversion, including the legal ins and out of the independent contractor model and what resources are available for providers. You’ll also hear from Contractor Management Services, providers of risk management services, support and technology (on-line resources to manage contractor agreements, credentials, CEUs, payroll, taxes, medical and dental care and more).

Learn about other Arizona companies who are in the process of converting their direct care workers to independent contractors and see how this model may offer you the competitive edge essential for survival as managed care rolls out.
