Tennessee Gets Two-Month Managed Care Waiver Extension

July 11, 2016
On June 30, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) granted a two-month temporary extension to the state of Tennessee for a Medicaid managed-care waiver that expired on that day. The state's Medicaid program, TennCare, was authorized in 2002 under an 1115 waiver and currently covers approximately 20% of the state's population, including half of the state's children. The extension was granted so that state officials would have additional time to negotiate terms of a longer-term solution for the waiver going forward.
