Social Security Caregiver Credit Act Introduced in Senate

On May 25, Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) introduced the Social Security Caregiver Credit Act of 2017 (S. 1255). The bill would provide an earnings credit for caregivers that take unpaid time off of work to provide care for dependent relatives. The credit would be added to earnings to calculate future Social Security benefits for the caregiver. Similar bills have been introduced in every Congress for the past 15 years, but have never advanced to become law.
