Report on Money Follows the Person Demonstration Available

April 18, 2012

Mathematica Policy Research, under contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, has issued a report on its findings of the Money Follows the Person (MFP) Demonstration.

The goal of the demonstration is to support state efforts to assist Medicaid beneficiaries living in long-term care facilities to transition to community-based residences. MFP participants are offered expanded home and community-based services beyond those generally available to Medicaid enrollees.

The report found that despite additional upfront costs expended to help with transitioning, the long-term effect of transitioning individuals to HCBS is a cost savings over institutional care.
