NIDILRR Announces New Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects Grants

Four new grant opportunities from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) at ACL have been announced under the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects Program (DRRP) for several areas: knowledge translation, Burn Model Systems Centers, Traumatic Brain Injury Model System Centers, and Americans with Disabilities Act National Network collaborative research project.

The purpose of the DRRP program is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities (including international activities) to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities.

These DRRP grants are for a variety of areas:

·        DRRP Center on Knowledge Translation for Disability and Rehabilitation Research
Applicants must propose activities to add new knowledge in the area of knowledge translation; promote the use of NIDILRR-funded work that is relevant to the needs of intended audiences; and support knowledge translation endeavors of NIDILRR grantees and other NIDILRR-funded knowledge translation centers.

·        DRRP Burn Model System Centers Program
The Burn Model System Centers must provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary services to individuals with burn injury and conduct research that contributes to evidence-based rehabilitation interventions and clinical and practice guidelines. Applicants must propose research that contributes to the development of evidence-based burn rehabilitation practices through the advancement of science at any stage of research. The proposed research must be designed to contribute outcomes of individuals with burn injury in one or more of these domains: health and function, community living and participation, and employment.

·        DRRP Traumatic Brain Injury Model System Centers Program
The Traumatic Brain Injury Model System Centers must provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary services to individuals with traumatic brain injury and conduct research that contributes to evidence-based rehabilitation interventions and clinical and practice guidelines. Applicants must propose research that contributes to the development of evidence-based traumatic brain injury rehabilitation practices through the advancement of science at any stage of research. The proposed research must be designed to outcomes of individuals with traumatic brain injury in one or more of these domains: health and function, community living and participation, and employment.

·        DRRP Americans with Disabilities Act National Network Collaborative Research Project
One DRRP grant will be awarded to serve as the ADA National Network Collaborative Research Project. The proposed project must include active collaboration of at least three NIDILRR-funded ADA National Network Regional Centers. The grantee must conduct research that generates knowledge about ADA implementation and compliance, and must conduct research in one or more areas of the ADA. These areas may include, but are not limited to research on specific titles of the ADA, research on ADA issues in specific industries, or research on ADA issues that are relevant to individuals with specific types of disabling conditions.
