MT Considers Unique Medicaid Expansion Plan

November 24, 2014
Last week, Montana Governor Steve Bullock (D) announced a plan to extend Medicaid within the state to cover approximately 70,000 low-income residents. The plan would use federal money to contract with a private administrator who would process claims and manage a network of physicians, hospitals and other services providers. The proposal is part of Bullock's two-year budget, and would have to be approved by the Republican-lead legislature. In 2013, the Montana legislature rejected a Medicaid expansion proposal, citing the cost associated with and opposition to implementing part of the Affordable Care Act.
