The newly enacted Budget Control Act that increased the debt ceiling limit and cut the deficit by nearly $1 trillion over 10 years also established a bipartisan 12-member House-Senate committee. The Super Committee is charged with making additional deficit recommendation to the Congress before Thanksgiving.
Senate members of the committee include Max Baucus (D-MT), John Kerry (D-MA), Patty Murray (D-WA), Jon Kyl (R-AZ), Rob Portman (R-OH), and Pat Toomey (R-PA). House members appointed include Dave Camp (R-MI), Fred Upton (R-MI), Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), James Clyburn (D-SC), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), and Xavier Becerra (D-CA).
Senator Murray and Representative Hensarling will serve as co-chairs charged with coming up with $1.2 to $1.5 trillion through cuts in entitlement programs and defense or tax measures that produce more revenues.
