Lawmakers Request Details on How CMS Combats Fraud

On April 2, four GOP lawmakers sent a letter to Marilyn Tavenner, acting administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, requesting details of efforts to identify "nominee owners""”the term for individuals named as a provider or supplier for Medicare, Medicaid or Children's Health Insurance Programs, but who are acting to shield the identity of the real owner. The lawmakers further asked for information about how CMS combats fraud committed by entities that set up false storefronts or shell companies.
