KanCare Opponents Concerned Over Impact on People with DD

KanCare"”Kansas Governor Sam Brownback's plan, which will allow private insurance companies to manage the state's Medicaid program"”has been criticized by county officials across the state. The biggest concern is the impact on individuals with developmental disabilities, who critics say are likely to lose long-term care services under the new plan as it will create an unfunded mandate that counties already struggling with budget shortfalls will have great difficulty meeting.

At least 20 counties have passed resolutions asking the governor to carve out an exception from KanCare for the long-term care services Medicaid provides for people with developmental disabilities. An article by the Kansas Health Institute on this issue can be found here.
