House and Senate Head into August Recess, Have Different Schedules – Opportunity for Advocacy

Every year, Congress goes on recess in the month of August, during which Members of Congress return to their home states and districts. However, this year is following a more unusual pattern with the House going home for the whole month while the Senate only takes one week. The Senate just announced its recess dates late last week.

The full dates for the Congressional recesses are:

  • House recess: August 1-September 3, 2018.
  • Senate: August 3-12, 2018.

Under the stewardship of the ANCOR Grassroots Work Group, ANCOR will be organizing grassroots advocacy in August. However, because of the late notice for the Senate’s recess ANCOR’s advocacy will largely target the House. We strongly encourage members to reach out to their individual Senator’s in-district offices to schedule meetings while they are home to build stronger relationships and help advance key issues. ANCOR members interested in engaging in advocacy can find Congressional contacts talking points, explanatory one-pagers and sample social media on ANCOR’s key issues on our Digital Lobbying Page. We recommend that you bookmark this page as we will be updating it in the future as our key issues evolve.

Please contact Doris Parfaite-Claude, Federal Advocacy and Research Manager, at [email protected], if you wish to receive assistance with your advocacy and/or learn more about the Grassroots Work Group.
