EVV Update – Take Action this Week!

July 9, 2018

ANCOR has been actively advocating for the Senate to advance legislation that delays Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) for one year, to continue the momentum gained since H.R.6042 passed the House at the end of June.

Last week, we informed members that our Senate sponsors of S.2897, a related bill, will change its language to be identical to H.R. 6042 so that S. 2897 becomes H.R. 6042’s companion bill in the Senate. They hope to pass S. 2897 by an expedited process known as unanimous consent. Unanimous consent in the Senate allows legislation to pass quickly without being taken to a voice vote—as long as no Senator voices opposition to the bill, then the regular and lengthier process of debate and recorded votes does not have to take place. Should this occur, it would allow the bill to pass the Senate by the end of the summer, after which it would head to the President’s desk to be signed into law. For this to happen, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) need to agree to bring the bill up for a vote under unanimous consent.

With the Senate now back from its July 4 recess, this week is an ideal time for you to reach out to your Senators and let them know you want to see the EVV delay bill pass through unanimous consent. Stay tuned for an action alert from ANCOR later this week to see how you can take action!
