Community Integration Act Companion Bill Introduced in House

October 24, 2014

On September 18, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (D-PA) introduced H.R. 5547, the House companion bill to S. 2515, The Community Integration Act of 2014 introduced by Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA). The house bill is co-sponsored by U.S. Representative Michael Michaud (D-ME). The legislation ensures that people eligible for institutional level of care are provided the choice and access to community services on a statewide basis. Importantly, it also includes a requirement that state payment structures be adequate to ensure an ample and well-qualified workforce.

ANCOR strongly supports the Community Integration Act and organized a petition campaign in support of the bill during Direct Support Professional Recognition Week earlier this year. We encourage you to continue to show support for the legislation using the action alert on our Action Center.

Cartwright's press release, which includes a quote from ANCOR Vice President of Public Policy Barbara Merrill, is available here
