CMS Rumored to Soon Approve Indiana Medicaid Work Requirements Waiver

Indiana’s Medicaid waiver program is set to expire at the end of January if it is not extended, creating urgency and fueling rumors that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) agency is set to approve the plan very shortly. Similarly to Kentucky’s waiver, the Indiana waiver includes a proposal to require certain non-pregnant, adult Medicaid recipients who do not have disabilities to work to receive benefits. The plan, developed by Seema Verma as a consultant for Indiana before she became CMS Administrator, also includes Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and monthly payments for enrollees.
