CMS Presses New Hampshire for Details of Medicaid Reductions

June 7, 2012

In a letter dated May 23, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requested that the New Hampshire Department of Health & Human Services provide detailed information about reimbursement rate reductions in its Medicaid program over the past several years, including data and analysis detailing historical levels of access to care, the impact of program and rate changes, evidence of ongoing beneficiary engagement efforts and provider access monitoring plans—within 30 days.

The request comes in the wake of a lawsuit filed last summer by 10 New Hampshire hospitals that sued the state alleging that it violated the Medicaid Act by not sufficiently providing reimbursement for Medicaid patients. The hospitals involved sent a letter to CMS Deputy Administrator Cindy Mann in April 2012 asking her to intervene on the behalf of providers in the state.
