Budget Update Predicts Medicaid, Medicare Spending Lower

August 2, 2012

The White House's 2013 Mid-Session Review predicts that Medicare and Medicaid federal expenditures will drop sharply over the next decade. The report projects Medicare and Medicaid spending to decrease by $121 billion and $123 billion respectively from the administration's previous forecasts. The difference in Medicaid spending is accounted for primarily from lower projected benefit payments in 2012 and 2013 and slower projected growth.
