Blog Posted on Raising Medicaid Primary Care Rates

May 29, 2012

On May 24, the Commonwealth Fund posted a blog by Tricia McGinnis offering takeaways from recently-released proposed regulations for implementing the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid primary care rate increase.

In the post, McGinnis identifies a broad approach to provider eligibility; extension of eligibility to include nurse practitioners and physician assistants, as well as doctors; expansion of covered services; and managed care challenges as the key takeaways in the regulations. McGinnis also notes that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will be working with states over the next few months to get input on implementation in order to finalize the regulations.

Comments are due on the regulations by June 11, 2012.
