ANCOR was invited to attend and participate in a meeting hosted by the National Council on Disability (NCD) focusing on challenges to implementation of the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, signed into law in 2014.  The ABLE Act creates tax-advantaged savings accounts for people with disabilities that are shielded from disqualifying the ABLE account holder from receiving  important benefits like Medicaid.

The meeting included NCD Chair Neil Romano and NCD staff, select state officials, Congressional staff from the House and Senate, key federal agency officials from the Social Security Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Administration for Community Living, the Department of Education, as well as select private sector organizations like ANCOR.  The meeting produced a healthy dialogue of improved methods all invested stakeholders and the government can activate to increase the already 25,000 ABLE Act account holders. Consensus around expanded education and exposure of the program led the discussion.  NCD Chair Neil Romano plans to hold future discussions with this group – ANCOR is pleased to be a participating partner and support the goals and growth of ABLE accounts.
