On March 27, the Alliance for Health Reform hosted a webinar updating listeners on how states will implement the healthcare overhaul passed in 2010. Because the states are given a fair amount of flexibility in how to implement the law, understanding states' options and approaches to provisions such as Medicaid expansions is key to understanding the effect of the law. Also addressed were the consequences to the law should the Supreme Court rule the Medicaid expansion unconstitutional.
Speakers included Enrique Martinez-Vidal, vice president for state policy and technical assistance at AcademyHealth; Matt Salo, executive director of the National Association of Medicaid Directors; and Noam Levey, who covers health care policy for the Los Angeles Times/Tribune Washington bureau. Ed Howard, founding executive vice president of the Alliance, was the moderator.
